Staff Spotlight - Dylan Jacobs

My name is Dylan Jacobs, and I am a Senior Interactive Media - Game and Application development major. Originally from Buffalo Grove, IL, I'm a student at Bradley University in Peoria.

Though I do love technology, it does not take away from my passion for the outdoors. My hobbies include playing games, writing and playing music, and swimming. This will be my 11th summer at North Star and I'm a cabin counselor instructing swimming and waterskiing.

More about DJ

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three things you'd bring?
- I would bring a telescope to enjoy the night sky, a fishing pole so I could catch my food (hopefully I'd get good at fishing), and a friend to enjoy the island with me.

Favorite special program at camp:

How has camp impacted you:
- Camp has basically made me into the person that I am today. As a child who grew up timid and quiet, I have become an outgoing person who's not afraid to try new things, and instead is excited by them. It has made me a leader which has been reflected in my studies, taking leadership roles on various application development projects. Most importantly, the attitude around the camp community is one that I hope will reflect my own life, and I try to incorporate parts of it into my actions every day.

Staff Spotlight - Andy "Crazylegs" Rodheim

Back for summer #12, its Andy "Crazylegs" Rodheim. Hailing from Buffalo Grove, IL, Andy is graduating from Northwestern University this June. He loves his university so much that he's decided to put in three more years as he relocated to NU's Chicago campus. He'll begin law school in the fall.

On campus Andy has been involved with Greek Life and Hillel. He's a big sports fan, supporting his Cubs and always wearing NU purple on Friday's. At camp Andy is on our leadership team as one of our village directors. He also instructs waterskiing and tennis.  There are lots of rumors as to how he got his nickname "Crazylegs," but we'll save that for another time.

Your best memory of camp

How has camp impacted you?
- Camp has impacted me in more ways than I can put on paper. Over the past 11 summers, I have learned and develop so many important skills that have helped me in every aspect of life. From not being afraid to try new things, to developing a sense of independence, to enhancing my leadership skills, camp has made me the person I am today. And of course, camp has been the most fun way I could have possibly spent the past 11 summers, and has provided me with memories that will last a lifetime.
