Staff Spotlight: Erin Armstrong

Erin Armstrong is from Port Huron, MI.  She just graduated from Oakland University Nursing School with her BSN.  Erin loves sports, animals, learning new things, and people.  She has played sports her whole life (anything and everything), but especially enjoyed volleyball, basketball, archery, and yoga. Erin is traveling to Ireland before attending camp and it will be her first time going to Europe, so she is very excited!

More about Erin

How did you learn about North Star and why did you apply?

My mother was visiting her brother in MN and was given/found a flyer that they were looking for a camp nurse.  I was graduating in the Spring, and she knew I did not want a hospital position right away, so she passed it along.  I didn't know if it would work out, but I looked into it.  Needless to say, I AM SO EXCITED!

If you wrote an autobiography, what would the title be?

I can't believe this is real life.

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

Probably Detroit in it's prime during Motown.

What is your dream vacation:

Backpacking across Europe, or the United States, or wherever :) Well, that's tied with seeing the Northern lights in Iceland.

If you had a super hero power, what would it be:

Being able to change my size.

What noteworthy/random/menial jobs have you held?

I have been an intramural official for college sports, started my own odd job business at 14 years old, was a waitress at a pizza place, and been a sitter for the elderly.

What TV show or movie are you ashamed to admit that you love?

The Karate Kid (but only the newest one)

What did you do last summer?

Last summer I played a ton of sand volleyball, was the maid of honor in my sisters wedding, attended the float down in Port Huron, and was still in nursing school...

What is a little Known fact about yourself:

I still sleep with a teddy bear named Mr. Bear at the ripe age of 21.

What, if any previous camp/outdoor experiences have you had?

My family often went camping  when I was growing up, and I spend as much time as I can outdoors.  I grew up 5 miles from Lake Huron so much of my time is spent on the beach, campfires, and in the water.  I also attended a camp in Canada when I was younger which I super enjoyed.
