Staff Spotlight: Daniel Ruiz




Daniel is coming back for his 3rd summer at North Star Camp, he is 24 years old and he's from La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. He's an English, German and Spanish teacher as a foreign language. He's going to be working with the kitchen Staff. His favorite hobbies are cooking, swimming, reading and watching films. Something interesting about him is that he's a pet lover and he loves traveling abroad. After camp, he's going to be teaching German and Spanish as a second language in Germany for 2 years.

What is your dream vacation?

His dream vacation would be to spend a whole year traveling around the world in all the remote, distant, unexplored and hidden places.

A secret hobby or skill that you have?
 
Daniel has the amazing skill of being able to put more than 25 grapes inside his mouth at the same time. And he's also really good learning foreign languages.


What TV show or movie are you ashamed to admit that you love?

Daniel used to watch Glee, not anymore.

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

If Daniel could witness any historical event, he would definitely come back in time till 1990 at the Bellas Artes Palace in Mexico City, where Juan Gabriel (Mexican Singer) gave the best concert ever, or being able to see the end of one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of the cold war, the Berlin Wall fall on November the 9th 1989.

How did you learn about North Star and why did you apply?

H was on his 3rd year at the university and he was looking forward to improving his English skills by practicing it more and a friend of his told him about an agency which recruits students from all around the world to work at camps in America, North Star was interested on him and the connection was immediate and he got a trustworthy feeling. He immediately thought that everybody where really awesome and reliable and he wasn’t wrong.

What noteworthy/random/menial jobs have you held?

Daniel worked as an online English teacher for Korean and Japanese teenagers on Tutor ABC. He had to work from 4:30 am till 8 am because of the different time zone.

What got you interested in cooking?

Since Daniel was a kid he was really interested on learning how to cook or bake. He learned just by watching her mom doing it. When he was in high school he was totally sure he wanted to be a Chef or to get into the culinary arts, but he discovered his passion for teaching and learning different languages. He cooks as a hobby for his family and friends.

What are your favorite things to cook/bake?

Of course Daniel loves to cook Mexican typical food, such as Chilaquiles, Enchiladas, Empanadas, Burritos and Fajitas.
