Staff Spotlight: Francis Borchards

Francis was born in Knysna, South Africa, where she also did all of her schooling. Currently Francis is still studying trying to finish my teaching degree at the University of South Africa. Before becoming Laney's Au Pair , she was teaching 5-6 year old toddlers at a local pre-school.

How did you learn about North Star and why did you apply?

Working for Andy , I learned about North Star Camp!

If you wrote an autobiography, what would the title be?

Well, that didn't work...

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

Historical event, the time Anne Frank and her family went into hiding.

What is your dream vacation:

Dream vacation- cruising on the MSC via Durban , South Africa to Mozambique.

If you had a super hero power, what would it be:

Superhero power- Camouflaging

What noteworthy/random/menial jobs have you held?

Handing out water and fruit to runners at a festival.

What TV show or movie are you ashamed to admit that you love?

All of "the real housewives" shows.

What did you do last summer?

Last summer(South Africa), I was spending my last few days with my family before leaving for Chicago.

What is a little Known fact about yourself:

I am very instrumental and musical. I play the soprano recorder, taught myself the Alto recorder and bought myself the silver flute which needs a lot of practicing still !


What, if any previous camp/outdoor experiences have you had?

I went on a Survival Camp for one week , slept in tents in the woods, hiking and canoeing for 2 days, last day we ran a 2.5K, oh we were not allowed to bath nor shower for that entire week..
